1. Do you often read books? When?

To be frank, I’m not exactly a voracious reader but I do read a fair bit. I guess the main reason is that looking at a wall of text makes me feel a little bit drowsy. Having said that, I still think books are very educational, and a great boon to learning.

  • A voracious reader (n): người rất máu đọc sách, đọc rất nhanh
  • A fair bit (adj): chút ít
  • A boon to (n): một thứ gì đó hữu ích

2. Are your reading habits now different than before?

I used to be an impulsive reader as I only read when I feel like it, but now, as I want to keep up with my profession, I spend more time reading and planning what to read. In addition, the difference in my reading habits also comes in the genre. When I was young, I only liked comics and fairy tales, but now I like reading self-help, newspapers, and academic papers more.

  • Impulsive (adj): bộc phát, không cần kế hoạch, không suy nghĩ trước
  • Genre (n): thể loại

3. Have you ever read a novel that has been adapted into a film?

Sure, actually there are many books that I enjoy that have been converted into movies. One of those is ‘Harry Potter’, my favorite series of books when growing up. The movies were a stupendous success, there are probably more fans of the movies than the books.

  • Converted into (v): chuyển thể thành
  • Stupendous (adj): rất to lớn, quan trọng, kỳ diệu

4. Which do you prefer, reading books or watching movies?

Well if I had to pick, I would choose the former. Books open up many more possibilities according to one’s imagination. The characters become more brave, scary, humorous, and relatable. The author has the ability to explain the thought process going on in the character’s mind – this is something that’s rarely done perfectly in adaptations.

  • Relatable (adj): quen thuộc, có thể liên hệ được mình hoặc câu chuyện của mình ở trong đó
  • Adaption (n): những hình thức chuyển thể từ bản chính. (VD như phim, sách,…)
